Date Rape - A Growing Problem

A student is taken to the hospital because she was feeling dizzy, nauseus and ill. It was discovered she had amphetamines in her system. She doesn't remember much about the night before, just that she had been drinking in a bar or nightclub and the next thing she knew she awoke in a foggy haze and knew something was really wrong. This scenerio is all too familiar. Date Rape Prevention - Cocktail Condoms?

We all know that date rape is an ever increasing problem especially among the teenage and twenty something crowd. And we have all heard how many date rape drugs get slipped into an unsuspecting victims drink to render them helpless or unconscious. But have you ever heard of cocktail condoms as a possible solution to the problem?

A Boston city counselor has suggested the use of cocktail lid covers to prevent unprotected drinks from being poisoned with drugs. Counselor Stephen Murphy has good intentions we say, but will it work?

Here is the idea: A cocktail condom peels off and is placed on the lid of a glass where it is firmly in place with adhesive. You can then place a straw through the lid on the glass and drink away. I can already think of some problems such as drugs could be slipped through the straw, although not as easily, or someone could lift up the lid and place it back on the glass.

But here is a better solution to prevent date rape than a cocktail condom; never leave a drink unattended or have a trusted friend always watch your drink.

Date Rape Case Eases On Bounty Hunter But Problems Still Loom

Nabbing the date rape perpetrator Andrew Luster in Mexico a few years back has been haunting Dog the Bounty Hunter for a while now. Mexico has finally agreed to drop the extradition charges and not seek further indictments on the famed criminal bounty hunter. And that is a good thing since I think he did way more good getting this date rape creep off the streets, (no matter if it was in Mexico) and putting him in jail.

But of course, Dog is now in hot water for a hate crime of his own. Crime might be too strong of a word but the words Dog used to his son in a private conversation that has now become public is coming back to haunt him. A&E has cancelled his show and for now he is trying to make nice with all he offended.

I for one, feel he is not a prejudiced man and made a really bad choice in using those words. But let's face it, he is putting the criminals off the streets for us and let's hope he can get back to work soon and leave all of this behind him.

Facts On Date Rape

A rape is not just a person jumping out of the bushes and sexually attacking someone. In fact, in many instances it is not even a stranger that rapes but someone who the person knows. About one half of all the persons raped know the person that attacked them, hence the term date rape.

Friendships, acquaintances and dates more often than not are happy. But in many circumstances they do end in violence and even rape. A date rape is just this; when forced sex occurs between two people who already know each other.

No one has the right to force a sexual act upon another person, regardless if you are on a date or you are with a friend. Girls are most often the victim of date rape but in 7 - 10% of cases date rape victims are male.

Rape is an act of sexual violence and has nothing to do with love, like or friendship. Date rape is always the fault of the rapist even if you are dating this person, you do not owe the person sex.
