Crime Stories - The Cops Side

crime storiesAs far as crime stories are concerned it is usually the reporters side that you read about in the newspaper, in a magazine or hear about on the news. What most people do not hear or know about, or even understand for that matter, is the cops side of the story. A book that just came out by Lt. Randy Sutton called "True Blue: To Protect and Serve" will change all that. In it he tries to give you a different perspective. After reading his book you will come to understand that the police officers are just as human as you and me. That they question themselves, their jobs and their role in society often. This book lets you know just how hard and even gut wrenching being a cop can be. Seeing car wrecks, murders and more takes a hard toll after a while.

Senseless Crime Stories

crime storiesThere are some dumb criminals out there and along with them come their dumb and senseless crime stories. Just because these stories are dumb and senseless does not in any way make them any less horrible.

Lawn care has left one man dead and another man facing a death sentence. What happened? Well, the bad blood between the neighbors in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida had been simmering for years. The neighbors often fought over property lines and eventually they fought over everything, including how short to trim the lawn grass.

Andrew Macon's lawn man supposedly nicked the edge of Jerome Jackson's grass with his riding mower. At that moment Jackson came charging out of his home and so did Macon. The two men argued violently until Macon whipped out a pistol and shot Jackson. Jackson did not fall immediately and jumped Macon and the two struggled until Macon shot Jackson once more, killing him.

Of course everyone has said that Macon was 'such a nice guy' and that this was not like him at all. But now he faces a first degree murder charge and the death penalty.

Crime Stories That Fascinate Us All

crime storiesWhat is it about crime stories that keep us fascinated? TV shows and movies will never stop churning out abstract entertainment on serial killers, murderers, kidnappers and the like. Why do we follow such stories and what does it say about us?

As mentioned below there is numerous Jack the Ripper documentaries and movies that show no sign of slowing down. The famed Zodiac killer who left cryptic clues continues to puzzle lawmakers and curious citizens alike as does the Manson murders, Ted Bundy, mob stories and others.

Crime and punishment have always been a keen topic of filmakers and there is no shortage of those of us who still find these subjects fascinating. Maybe it has something to do with the detective in us all. We all want to find that one more clue as to 'who done it' or get the answers as to 'why they did it.'

Recently I saw a list of the top 10 true crime movies of all time. I am not sure I agree with them all but here they are; The St. Valentines Day Masacre (1967), Monster (2003), Reversal of Fortune (1990), The French Connection (1971), Heavenly Creatures (1994), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Rope (1948) and Compulsion (1959), All the President's Men (1976), Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) and my personal favorite, In Cold Blood (1967).

World's Best Crime Stories?

crime storiesWhat are the world's best crime stories? There are plenty to choose from. Everything from hijackings to murder to unexplained and suspicious disappearances. Here is a list of some top unsolved crime stories of all time.

You have to start with the most famous of all crime stories, Jack the Ripper. In London in 1888 when 5 prostitutes (or was it 8) were found brutally slashed the top crime story of all time began.

Agatha Christie's brief, yet unexplained disappearance. The famous crime story author disappeared in 1926. Her car was found in the bushes with headlights burning, a suitcase in back. Later she popped up in Yorkshire reading a paper about her own disappearance but the real story remains to be heard.

The hijacking of an American flight by D.B. Cooper in 1971 is a top crime story that is yet to be resolved. Who was he and is he still alive?

Was Marilyn Monroe's death a suicide or murder? It still remains unknown if drugs found in her blood, but not her stomach were put there intentionally by the Mob, the Kennedy's or her psychiatrist Dr. and for what reason.

Famous horror writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe's death is as dark as the things he wrote about. After saying he was leaving to visit his ex-mother-in- law, Poe turned up in someone else's clothes in Baltimore, disheveled and disoriented. He died later that day and it is still an unexplained and mysterious event.

These are just the tip of the iceberg as far as the world's best crime stories go, maybe we will come up with more later on. What are your favorites?
