Andy Warhol's Paintings Of Crime Scenes
I just watched a documentary on Andy Warhol and part of what fascinated me most was his Death and Disaster series, crime scenes that he painted between 1962 and 1963. Along with images of the electric chair, Warhol painted scenes of car crashes, race riots and a disturbing collection of death and injury.Andy Warhol was a unique individual to say the least, and he had a morbid interest in disaster themes that permeated his work. Death, knives and guns were featured throughout his work as well as a series of screenprints titled "Flash-November 22, 1963", that he documented in 11 images the assasination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas.
Warhol's paintings of celebrity's as well as his Death and Disaster series are still popular today, selling for tens of millions of dollars. His Green Car Crash sold last year for a record 35 million dollars. His silkscreen paintings are also featured in a Pittsburg museum as well as one in his native Polland.
