New Clue On Past True Crime?

In southwest Washington state a man given the name DB Cooper bailed out of an airplane with $200,000 in cash 36 years ago. He has been the stuff that legends are made of ever since.

Few clues have pointed to who he is and whatever happened to him, until recently. A dirt stained clump of fabric was recently unearthed at a home that turned out to be a nylon parachute that fits the description and the size of the one Cooper used on that infamous day he jumped.

In Ariel, Washington, DB Cooper is a folklore hero. A man who didn't harm anyone and got away with his crime. A true legend. In fact, at the local saloon, Ariel Store, they hold an annual party in honor of DB and celebrate his famous getaway. Last year at least 260 people showed up, which was a big crowd considering Ariel is a town of just 700 residents.

The FBI says this is the only unsolved hijacking in its history. A real true crime who-dun-it.

New Manson Crime Scene?

Will the Barker Ranch located west of Death Valley National Park become a new Manson family crime scene? The ranch is where a paranoid Charles Manson and his gang of followers holed up after the bloody Tate/LaBianca murder spree in Los Angeles in 1969.

Today the ranch is abandoned and sits in a barren wilderness where few ventured then or today. But forsenic investigators did go out there recently to conduct experiments looking for more victims of the Manson family that would have occured more than 40 years ago.

The preliminary results of these tests have determined that there could be bodies lying beneath the parched ground. For years there have been rumors that there were many more victims than initially thought and the next step then would be to dig.

OJ Crime Statistics

When it comes to OJ Simpson, the crime statistics just keep rising. First of course with the horrible, bloody double murders back in 1994 that he got away with. Acquitted by a criminal jury but found guilty by a civil jury. OJ has been jail free and living the high life ever since.

Then last year he burst in with other men and guns drawn into a Las Vegas casino hotel room to supposedly try and recover some of his stolen memorabilia. His trial for that crime is still pending.

Now his longtime girlfriend Christie Prody is in a hospital in Florida after collapsing at a gas station with a large gash on her head. After getting to the hospital, doctors discovered that her brain was swollen and bleeding and that she had massive bruises on her entire body, much more damage than just a fall in a gas station would cause. In fact authorties suspect an assault. And while no charges have been filed against OJ, yet, they are suspicious and he is not allowed to even visit her in her hospital room.

According to Miami-Dade police spokesman Kathy Webb, "The case is not closed," and then added, "We are still working it, and it will be under wraps until we're done."

Reporter Attacked Covering Crime News

A reporter in South Carolina suddenly became crime news herself after she was attacked by family members of an accused murderer. The reporter, Charmayne Brown, a black woman, was standing on a public street when female family members of the accused murderer rushed up to her and started swinging. This happened after she had been verbally assaulted for many minutes before.

Her cameraman had already put his camera away and rushed to try and help her. The attack was captured on film by another television camera crew.

The attackers were relatives of the murderer as well as the victim. Michael Shane Howell, 33, is accused of killing his grandfather, 73 year old Tommy Howell.

Stop Crime Video - Effective Or Not?

Unsolved Murders Have New Lead

Detectives investigating the murder of Chapel Hill, North Carolina resident and student body president college student Eve Carson have a new lead in the case. A man using her ATM card was photographed in two surveillance photos at the ATM machine in Chapel Hill but police would not say exactly when the pictures were taken. The man in the photos is wearing a baseball cap with a large star on the front and a hooded sweatshirt.

Eve Carson's body was found in the street after neighbors heard shots around 5:00 am. She had been shot several times, once in the right temple.

Just 500 miles away another Southern college student, Lauren Birk, a freshman at Auburn University was found shot to death off campus. Her car was later found on campus engulfed in flames.

Although police are hesitant to say the two crimes are connected there may be a link in these tragic, unsolved murders.

True Crime - The Aileen Wuornos Story

Aileen Wuornos was America's first female serial killer. Last night I watched reporter Nick Broomfield's documentary on her titled, Aileen, Life And Death Of A Serial Killer. And I found sympathy for someone I never thought I would have sympathy for.

Yes, Aileen is a murderer but she is a tragic story herself. More than just the man-hating, lesbian, prostitute that the media portrayed her to be. From the moment she was born she struggled in this life. Abandonment, incest, bullied by other children, a young teen pregnancy which left her homeless and living in the woods for two years at the age of 13 - certainly formed who she was in adulthood.

When her first vicitm, Richard Mallory abused, tortured and raped her I think she snapped, to the point that she was never going to turn back. With that first murder I think she unleashed all her past rage on her future victims.

Her life is interesting to us now, but it is important to remember that she was a human being herself with feelings. And even though there is no condoning what she did to 7 men, you can't help but feel sorry for her. It is a true crime that should have never have happened if Aileen had had a better shot at life herself.
