US Has Highest Internet Crime Rate

The 2007 crime report from the Internet Crime Complaint Center, or IC3, has said that the US has the highest Internet crime rate, the dollar loss reported for this reached up to 239.9 million and is the highest loss to date. The IC3 takes field complaints for online crime on behalf of the National White Collar Crime Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation or FBI.

While the number of complaints has stayed relatively the same from year to year, it is the dollar figure that has increased. With the Internet only getting more popular world wide, this leaves the door wide open for all would be criminals to come in and it leaves a wealth of opportunities for them.

The report also stated that 75% of those cyber criminals are male, with 15.8% of them coming from California, 10.1% from Florida, 9.9% from New York and 7% from Texas. E-mail is their favorite form of contacting their victims and auction fraud is the most common type of fraud committed.
