Home invasion is unfortunately, a growing crime in America. It is where criminals force their way into a home while the residents are there, in order to committ their crime like burglary or rape. It can happen to anyone, anywhere and can be a frightening and emotionally scarring experience. But there are ways to protect you and your family, so this does not happen to you.

First, never sit at home with the doors unlocked, it just is not safe anymore. Always be aware of your surroundings and in your neighborhood report any suspicious vehicles driving around or suspicious people walking around. Organize a neighborhood block watch if you can.

Install good locks on all doors and windows and think seriously about getting a home security alarm system. Motion sensitive lighting outdoors is a good idea as is cameras whether they are real or dummies, they will make a person think twice before they try to break in. Get a peep hole for your doors as well.

Finally, the best safety measure of all is a dog or two. They are the best deterrents of all and if you just don't want to get one at least place dog bowls and dishes outside to make them think you do have one. We need to stop crime now!
