"Toughest Sheriff In America" Knows How To Stop Crime
The self described "Toughest Sheriff in America," Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Phoenix, AZ knows how to stop crime. At least he's trying to anyway by enforcing tough DUI laws, (some say the harshest in the nation) and making it a lot tougher on criminals in Arizona period. If you get caught and convicted in his jurisdiction Sheriff Joe will make your life pretty much hell. Which is how jail is supposed to be isn't it? That is the theory behind his punishments and he also trys to instill the phrase, "If you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime."
Of the many 'discomforts' Sheriff Joe will enforce are, pink boxer shorts, 35 cent meals that include not too tasty bologna sandwiches, hard labor on chain gangs, short haircuts, educational TV, random drug testing and no smoking, movies, coffee or girlie magazines.
Oh yeah, and if you get caught in the summer the temperatures can reach as high as 122 degrees and you will have to do your time outside in Sheriff Joe's 'jail' called Tent City.
You don't wanna get caught in Phoenix.
